A total of 85 crate sportsman teams attempted to qualify for Sunday nights inaugural topless 100 event to battle for the 30 available spots to take the green at Thunder Mountain Speedway.
Kenny Hammond was able to drive from his 11th-place starting spot into second and close in on the leader through lapped traffic to take the lead on lap 26 only to lose the lead in the next few turns after colliding with a lapped car that sent him spinning. With some cosmetic damage, Hammond was able to rejoin at the back of the field.
As the battle up front heated up, with less than 20 laps remaining on the score board, Hammond found himself back in the hunt. With only 11 circuits remaining, Hammond dove to the outside lane and rolled around the leader to take the lead once again.
After riding the highs and lows over the 100-lap distance, Hammond pedaled his way into victory lane to take home the $13,000 payday.
The Topless 100 event advertised a $12,000 paycheck but with a $1,000 bonus to any Thunder Mountain regular who could defend their home turf.
Everyone at Bicknell Racing Products would like to congratulate Kenny Hammond and the entire team on their tremendous efforts and victory.
